Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Chief Counsel, located in Marfa, TX.

Duties In this position, you will serve as the primary point of administrative support and performing the administrative operations of the office. Typical work assignments include:
  • Updating and maintaining Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), work schedules and timekeeping, arranging for conference lines, making travel arrangements, emergency contacts listing, and internal phone listing, records management, system inquiries, and special projects;
  • Maintaining control of the officials' schedule, responding to and coordinating correspondence, tracking and following-up on project deadlines, arranging for briefing materials, and organizing meetings and conferences based on a knowledge of the management officials' preferences;
  • Monitoring administrative functions and transactions, and preparing reports using various databases and automated systems; and
  • Examining operational trends (i.e. purchasing, budget, etc.), and advising manager on potential administrative shortfalls and recommends solutions.

Qualifications You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following:

1. One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent performing duties such as establishing priorities and deadlines and ensuring they are met on a variety of administrative programs and/or projects to include travel and calendar management; evaluating supply needs and managing equipment service procurement actions; coordinating administrative and quasi-technical correspondence; and preparing reports based on analysis and research of data; OR
2. A Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education or a J.D. or L.L.B; OR
3. A combination of successfully completed graduate school education in excess of one year and required experience.

Education to be substituted or combined must be from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability needed to do the work. One year of full time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 36 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 2 years for the GS-09.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
